FOP Deputy Director Acknowledges the GENEROUS Mechanism

In an interview with *Finanz und Wirtschaft* on June 2, 2026, Kristian Schneider, Deputy Director of the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH), assesses the implications of the new U.S. pricing policy for Switzerland.

What does this mean for Switzerland?
The conclusion drawn in previous issues (that the FOPH is unfamiliar with the GENEROUS mechanism) cannot be upheld in this form.
However, two points of clarification remain essential: First, Schneider addresses the second-price logic, not purchasing power parity (PPP), which Indermitte dismissed as “scaremongering.” Second, it remains unclear whether the discrepancy between April (Indermitte) and June (Schneider) reflects an internal divergence or a trend. For Switzerland as a business location, it matters less whether the FOPH understands the mechanism than whether it derives a pricing strategy from it.
